About us

We are a registered social landlord.
We own and manage around 8,500 homes in Poplar, East London.
These were transferred from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets between 1998 and 2007.

HARCA stands for Housing and Regeneration Community Association.
Our role is to help bring about the social, urban and economic regeneration of the Poplar area.
We operate in an area of long-standing social and economic deprivation with high levels of social exclusion.
We aim to meet the need for good quality affordable housing.

We are registered with the Housing Corporation, are a non-profit organisation and a registered charity.

We have spent over £250 million refurbishing homes. This is to bring them up to the decent homes standard.
We have five community centres that offer a range of activities and services for local people.
Housing officers work from the centres to provide an ‘on the spot’ service.

We have raised over £1 million externally per year to fund community regeneration.
This programme links housing to training, jobs, education, health, sports and the arts.

The chair of the board is a resident. Each estate has an area board to deal with issues on their estate.
The boards make decisions about housing conditions, services and community amenities.
A resident director nominated from each estate sits on the main board.

Our properties span nine estates; Aberfeldy, Bow Bridge, Coventry Cross, Burdett, Devons, Lansbury, Lansbury West,  Leopold, Lincoln and Teviot.
