About us
Poplar HARCA is a registered social landlord which owns and manages around 8,500 homes in Poplar, East London.
These were transferred from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets between 1998 and 2009.
HARCA stands for Housing and Regeneration Community Association.
Our role is to help bring about the social, urban and economic regeneration of the Poplar area. We operate in an area of long-standing social and economic deprivation with high levels of social exclusion. We aim to meet the need for good quality affordable housing.
We are a non-profit organisation and a registered charity.
We have spent over £250 million refurbishing homes. This is to bring them up to the decent homes standard.
We have five community centres that offer a range of activities and services for local people. Housing officers work from the centres to provide an on the spot service.
We raise over £1 million externally per year to fund community regeneration. This programme links housing to training, jobs, education, health, sports and the arts.
Each estate has an area board to deal with issues on their estate. The boards make decisions about housing conditions, services and community amenities.
Residents from estate boards have the opportunity to be involved at the highest decision making level on the Poplar, Services, Places and Finance and Audit Boards.
