Get involved

Resident involvement is central to everything we do.
A team of seven resident empowerment officers support resident representatives.
They support those who volunteer with us with training, advice and personal development.

Each estate has a resident director that is part of the main Poplar Harca board.
They represent residents at the highest decision-making level.

Estate Boards involve a number of residents on each estate that meet regularly with Poplar Harca staff.
They discuss all the issue that affect their estate. Each estate/area board has a chair and vice-chair.

In addition to this formal structure, we endeavour to involve local people in a range of activities and projects that affect all the estates.
We also recruit locally for all our vacancies.

We are looking to develop a "model of active participation’. Pioneered by our partner organisation the Bromley by Bow Centre, this approach believes more can be achieved by providing support for individuals and groups to get on and do things for themselves.

The Housing Corporation and the Esmee Fairburn Foundation are funding us to carry out a research project over the next three years. This is also with South Bank University and the Bromley by Bow Centre. This project tries new ideas alongside some of the more traditional approaches and learning is shared as the project progresses.

We encourage local residents to join their estate/area board and make a difference!
