Security gates and grilles
Many residents install security gates and grilles on their front doors and windows. This is due to concerns about crime, especially burglary. However, while you have the right to protect your property, you should bear in mind the downsides of putting up gates and grilles:
Getting out in an emergency. The fire brigade provides the following advice on this issue: "…remember, something which makes it difficult for people to get in can also make it difficult to get out if there is a fire"
The cost. Remember that security gates and grilles can be expensive.
Damage. Poplar HARCA also has the right to prevent damage to its buildings. If, by putting up a gate or grille, you damage the building, you may be liable for the cost of repairing the damage.
For the reasons outlined above we will not give permission for you to install a security gate or grilles. If you still want to put up a security gate or grille, or you already have one, you are responsible for what happens.
You also need to make sure that it does not cause a nuisance to other residents or visitors.
You should also be aware that if you have a new multi secure/Secure by Design front door, we would not allow you to install a security gate.
