Hate crime reporting
This scheme allows those affected by hate crimes,
-racist
-homophobic
-domestic violence,
to report details to a trained officer at a specific site, without having to speak to the police or visit a police station.
There can be a number of barriers that deter people from reporting crime.
This scheme aims to encourage people affected by hate crimes to make an initial point of contact.
Available at nine sites in Tower Hamlets, it is now available at a further five sites:
Aberfeldy, Burdett, Teviot and Lansbury Neighbourhood Centres and the Bromley by Bow Centre.
The information taken down at one of the sites is passed on within 24 hours to the police and/or relevant organisation such as Victim Support and the local authority housing department.
This is only done with the permission of the victim.
A crime can also be reported anonymously in which case the information is logged for intelligence purposes to give a better picture of crime patterns.
