Formal instruction about changing electricity supplier
All residents have to make choices about which companies provide them with services such as electricity, gas, telephones and broadband. Poplar HARCA has to make choices about the suppliers we use too. We will shortly be changing our electricity supplier for communal lighting, lifts, door entry systems in all of our blocks and our offices. This is an important decision for us as it will affect the amount of service charges our residents pay.
We are members of a club with other social landlords called Procurement for Housing. By getting together we can buy in bulk to get discounts on the price, making it cheaper than if the companies were only supplying us. Business electricity prices change hourly, so we will have only a very short time to agree a price and contract. This means that we won't be able to tell you the price until after it has been agreed.
We have had to make an application to the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal for their agreement that we can do this without consulting with you about the prices because of the short timescales. They have agreed that we have acted reasonably and that there is no prejudice to any of our residents by doing this. A copy of the full determination can be found below.
