Coventry Cross residents vote yes to transfer to Poplar HARCA

18 December 2007
Residents on the Coventry Cross Estate, in Bromley by Bow, Tower Hamlets are looking forward to a £9 million transformation of their homes and estate following their vote to transfer to Poplar HARCA.

Over  65 per cent of tenants of the Coventry Cross Estate voted to transfer to us as part of the council's Housing Choice programme.

The council launched Housing Choice because it does not have  all  the money to make the improvements that its housing needs. Unlike the council, housing associations can bring in extra investment.  Housing Choice has so far secured over £420 million for housing in the borough.  The council has also bid for a further £190 million to provide decent homes as part of it's ALMO proposals.   Lead Councillor for Housing, Sirajul Islam said: “This is good news for residents on the Coventry Cross Estate. Like the 20 estate constituencies who have already voted for transfer, they can look forward to a real transformation to their homes and estates.”
