Festival fever in St Paul's Way
04 July 2011The local community celebrated the opening of their new St Paul’s Way Trust School and their neighbourhood with a vibrant cultural festival on Saturday 25 June.
Tessa Saunders OBE, Londoner and former international athlete opened the festival, which brought over 600 people together.
Young people and local artists showcased their musical talents. Events and activities included performances from:
* Embrace Dance
* Beat Breakers
* St Paul’s Way Drama & Dance classes
* local singers Terry & Lisa
* Akash Yousuf Shahadat, a touring Asian classical musician.
The festival was organised by Poplar HARCA, local people and local campaigner Lord Andrew Mawson in conjunction with various other community partners including St Paul’s Way School, Sure Start, Leaders in the Community and Bow Arts. The event was also part sponsored by Rydon Construction and Countryside Properties.
Asim Iftikhar, Poplar HARCA’s Service Manager for Regeneration, said
“St Paul’s Way is under going massive regeneration and this year’s festival was the perfect opportunity to celebrate the change. It was a great day and is a tribute to the community who made it a resounding success.”
