New family homes for local people
24 April 2009Local MP Jim Fitzpatrick joined Tower Hamlets Councillors and Poplar HARCA Chief Executive Steve Stride at the opening of Furze Green, a new housing development, on Monday 20 April.
Mr Rahman who has just moved into Furze Green with his family took Jim, Steve and councillors Lutfur Rahman and Marc Francis for a tour around his new four-bedroom home.
Furze Green provides 19 much needed affordable homes, including four three beds and two four bed family houses for rent. The scheme is also Poplar HARCAs first shared ownership scheme, which offers six homes for owner-occupiers on lower incomes.
Mr Rahman, a resident of Furze Green, said: "We are very pleased with our new home and are settling in well. We have a nice garden and there is more space for our family. Our home also overlooks the communal garden which is a nice safe place for our children to play."
The properties were built in partnership with Telford Homes Plc and Tower Hamlets Council and were completed in March 2009. The development is part of Poplar HARCAs ongoing commitment to regenerate Poplar.
Steve Stride, Chief Executive of Poplar HARCA, said: "Furze Green is an excellent example of how we are working to help families who are living in overcrowded homes. It has given 19 families the opportunity to move from unsuitable accommodation to new family homes. Over the coming years we will be working to build over 500 new family homes in the Poplar area."
