Poplar HARCA Residents' Conference

10 March 2008
Over 140 residents visited the Teviot Neighbourhood Centre on the 1 March to give us their views on our services and tell us how we can do better. Some residents brought their children who easily beat our staff at football and basketball!

A number of workshops, presentations and questions and answers with senior managers gave residents an opportunity to have their say and hear what our redevelopment plans are. There were a variety of exciting prizes up for grabs in the prize draw.

A highlight was an exercise where residents told us how we should spend £100,000 over the next year.
The most popular ideas included decorating vulnerable residents' homes and recruiting a member of staff to the Family intervention support team to provide extra support to residents in need.

Steve Bird, Resident Director, commented; “Residents having the ideas, making the decisions and deciding where the money goes was the end of a great day for resident empowerment.”

'I think the residents conference gave residents an excellent opportunity to tell Poplar HARCA officers and directors what they think about the services we are providing, and what they feel should be our priorities for the future”, said another Resident Director, Andrew Mahoney.

Millicent Muganyi, Lansbury West Resident Director, said, “The activities were informative, engaging and enriching for both residents and staff. I had quite a unique experience!”
