Poplar HARCA closes drug den
30 November 2007Six people were arrested after Poplar HARCA and the Limehouse Safer Neighbourhood Team raided a suspect drug den, following reports made by residents.
Residents contacted the safer neighbourhood team and us to report antisocial behaviour on the Lansbury West Estate. Their evidence led to the arrest of six people and the discovery of Class A and Class C drugs, along with stolen mobile phones.
Poplar HARCA and the police were successful in obtaining a Drugs Closure Order on the property at Thames Magistrates Court on the 30 November. This means the property in Piggott Street will be secured for three months and no one will be aloud to enter. The Tenancy Enforcement Team will now look to try and get the tenant permanently evicted.
Nelima Meah, Poplar HARCA Tenancy Enforcement Officer, says; "This is a good result for the Poplar community, especially for all residents living in Piggot Street. The information we received from them was crucial to help us take action. If you are experiencing antisocial behaviour please come forward and report it".
Sargeant Rob Brown, Limehouse Safer Neighbourhood Team, says; "The local community can feel proud because without them drugs would have continued to be bought and sold at this address. I hope this success will encourage others to come forward and tell us what they know".
