Poplar goes online
09 October 2008People who have not used the internet before can learn how to at the Get online day at the Aberfeldy Centre
The event is part of a national campaign by UK online centres aimed at families that don't use the internet. They want to help more than 12,000 people across the country start using the internet. Staff at the centre are anticipating a busy day of helping everyone from complete beginners who want to try the internet for the first time, to those who know the basics but want to find out a bit more.
Pete Day from the centre said; “There’s a first time for everything. We’re here to help with first emails, first internet searches and first steps! It’s our chance to show the local community that the internet can help you save time money and hassle, and it could even be fun! Get online day is for everyone, so whether you’re 18 or 80 why not come along? We can give you the tips you need to get started.”
One in three adults in the country don’t use the internet and 27% have never used it. Get online day aims to target families in the area who are currently missing out on all the benefits the internet can provide. Last year, research revealed that a key barrier to people getting online was a lack of skills and confidence, and Get online day aims to help people overcome their fears and try getting online for themselves.
This year, the event at the Aberfeldy Centre is one of over 500 Get online day events taking place at participating UK online centres. People are invited to pop into the Aberfeldy centre between 12 to 3pm on Monday 20 October.(www.ukonlinecentres.com)
