Fashioning Poplar is a £3.9million project part-funded by the Greater London Authority and led by Poplar HARCA, together with the London College of Fashion: University of the Arts London, and creative space enterprise The Trampery.
The project will transform 81 underused garages at Abbott Road and Brion Place and open space next to the A12, into a fashion and makery enterprise centre. The centre will comprise manufacturing, training, technology and affordable studio space, together with a community accessible café, events space and garden area. Bringing an authentic, accessible and ambitious industry back to Poplar, it will also provide space for local businesses and create 40 local jobs in the first 2 years of operation. London College of Fashion are already working with creative youth facility Spotlight and local community groups - Fashioning Poplar will help to extend this provision.
Since the spring, Poplar HARCA and its partners have been busy gathering more information about the sites, meeting with local groups and creating outline designs for the space. We would welcome the opportunity to share these outline designs with you, let you know more about the project and to hear your views. We held informal drop-in sessions for people to find out more at the start of October.
The outline designs are now available to view in the useful downloads tab. Please provide any thoughts on these designs by Monday 24th October.
