In assessing any claims made, insurers may undertake checks against publicly available information, such as electoral role, court decrees or county court judgements, bankruptcy or repossessions. Information may also be shared with other insurers either directly or via those acting for the insurer such as loss adjusters or investigators.
Insurers pass information to the Claims and Underwriting Exchange Register, run by Insurance Database Services Ltd (IDS Ltd.). The aim is to help insurers to check the information provided and also to prevent fraudulent claims. When you provide information about an incident (such as fire, water damage or theft) which may or may not give rise to a claim, information relating to that incident will be passed to the register. In assessing any claims made, the insurer or its agent may undertake checks against publicly avilable information (such as electoral roll, bankruptcy or repossessions). Information may also be shared with other insurers either directly or via those acting for the insurer (such as loss adjusters or investigators). It is important that adequate values for property insured are advised to us. Any claims settlement may be reduced in the event of underinsurance.
