Lansbury Micro Museum

The V&A has organised The Lansbury Micro Museum, supported by Poplar Harca and the National Trust, to celebrate the history and architectural importance of the Lansbury Estate.

The V&A is currently working with the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) on the formation of a new cultural and academic district on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which will include V&A East, a new V&A museum planned to open in 2021.

The V&A has organised The Lansbury Micro Museum, supported by Poplar Harca and the National Trust, to celebrate the history and architectural importance of the Lansbury Estate. This small museum (around 3m by 2.7m only) is located within a unit of the Chrisp Street market in Poplar, on the Lansbury estate. This museum considers the historical context of the estate’s development, the role of its architectural intention and the symbiotic impact this has had on the lives of the people who live there.

The Lansbury Micro Museum is looking for volunteers to join the existing volunteer team. The shifts would involve:

  • Opening and/or closing the Museum (depending on whether a morning or afternoon shift).
  • Preparing the space for visitors i.e. switching on lights and TV screen, and doing any necessary tidying up.
  • Welcoming in members of the public, engaging them in discussion about the display and their thoughts on the history and architectural importance of the Lansbury Estate.
  • Giving tours of the clock tower and the local area.
  • Support the delivery of local events.

Travel expenses would be provided by Poplar Harca.

The shifts would be three hours long and run either from 10am until 1pm OR 1pm until 4pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Two volunteers will be on shift at any given time.

The volunteers will start working at the Micro Museum from the 24th February and full training will take place in advance of their first shift.

Volunteers must be 18 or over.
