St Paul's Way is our newest neighbourhood centre, with trendy decor and modern design. It has a huge range of facilities, including a full IT suite, an art gallery, sound-proof meeting rooms and an expandable multi-purpose hall, all great for hosting different projects and events. It is also home to the Bow Brew café, which serves delicious coffee and food.

We are looking for a talented, personable and motivated person to organise and run a programme of scenic tours around Poplar, taking in our community centres. The aim of this role is to help more members of the community find out about the fabulous activities that happen across our buildings, and to encourage them to use more of our facilities and not just the ones closest to them.

We see this volunteer role as a great mini project that someone who enjoys talking to people and managing small group activities can get involved in. This is a pilot initiative so we are keen to hear your ideas about how these tours could be delivered. If you’re interested in doing part of this task, such as planning the project but not delivering the tours, that’s fine. Get in touch!

•    An interest in Poplar and its people!
•    Good written and spoken English
•    Confident and patient communication skills
•    A friendly and calm approach to interacting with others
•    A ‘can do’ approach, showing initiative and being pro-active
•    Flexible and comfortable adapting to changing environments
•    Experience in public speaking or performance is useful for this role but not essential

Time Commitment – We would like you to join us for a minimum of 3 months and for the programme of tours to start no later than 1 month after you join us. We would like some of the tours to be delivered at weekends.

What can we offer?
•    You will have an induction followed by ongoing support
•    You will have a named supervisor and opportunities for regular supervision sessions
•    You will be offered opportunities to attend training relevant to your role and to centre activity, including a chance to attend barista training with one of our partners
•    Volunteers who are unemployed will also be able to access training from our Employment and Training team on topics such as Awareness of Mental Health Problems, Business Administration and Customer Service. You will also be able to receive employability support including a CV review, help to apply for jobs and interview preparation
•    You will receive agreed travel expenses, and can claim lunch expenses if you volunteer for more than six hours a day
•    We will provide you with an honest reference regardless of how long you are with us
•    We are committed to provide a safe and supportive environment.

All volunteers are required to complete an application form, attend an informal interview and give two referees’ details. If successful your volunteer role may begin with a trial period.
