Free laptops rolled out at Poplar School
The Connecting Communities partnership has done it again!
The third rollout of free laptops to eligible families took place at Marner primary school in Tower Hamlets on Thursday 25 March. Children were excited to receive their computers thanks to the community partnership between The East End Community Foundation, (EECF) Poplar HARCA, Letta Trust, and Tower Hamlets Council.
The partnership helps to reduce the digital divide for those families on low income and without access to digital devices or broadband in Tower Hamlets. It launched in June 2020 and has since supported over 200 families by providing free laptops, basic digital training and one year free broadband. In the midst of the pandemic, being able to access online learning and essential services is more crucial than ever.
Sam Sharpe, Assistant Head teacher and IT lead, Marner Primary School: “We are so pleased to be able to offer this support to our children and families. Digital literacy and the ability to access essential services are vital to the success of children and adults in society. The experience we had in lockdown emphasised the digital divide and projects like this one are truly life changing”.
