Poplar HARCA is moving families into 10 affordable homes (six for social rent and four for shared ownership) within Agate House, part of the new and vibrant Stone Studios development in Hackney. This is the first time Poplar HARCA has expanded its housing stock beyond Tower Hamlets.
Stone Studios is a micro-neighbourhood of distinct buildings between Victoria Park and the Queen Elizabeth Park. It lies next to Hackney Wick Overground station, in the heart of the new neighbourhood centre, which is being shaped and promoted by the London Legacy Development Corporation through its Hackney Wick Central masterplan. Built on the site of a former metalworks, the development features a new public piazza, a vibrant area for active street frontages and new retailers, cafés and restaurants.
Telford Homes are developing the 120 apartments, of which Poplar HARCA has secured 10 affordable homes within Agate House. These homes have been completed and are ready for families to move into.
Sisters, Ciara and Lula Walmsley recently moved into one of Poplar HARCA’s shared ownership properties at Agate House. They said: “We were living in a tiny flat prior to moving to Stone Studios and the rent was extortionate. We were blown away by the fact we could afford to live in such a beautiful flat in a great location for less than we were paying before, whilst investing in our future. The location is fantastic, right between Victoria Park and the Olympic Park, meaning we get the best of the city whilst also being able to get outside and enjoy the parks.”
Paul Dooley, Director of Development and Regeneration at Poplar HARCA, said: “We are delighted to have secured 10 affordable homes within the borough of Hackney, growing Poplar HARCA’s presence beyond Tower Hamlets. Stone Studios is a fantastic development with places to shop, eat, relax and enjoy, and we are pleased to offer these homes to families at an affordable level. We will continue to seek opportunities to provide quality, affordable housing across East London.”
Elsewhere in Tower Hamlets, Poplar HARCA is progressing new build and community-driven regeneration programmes, including the transformative Teviot, Aberfeldy New Masterplan and Chrisp Street Market schemes which together will create more than 4,000 new homes, as well as community, commercial and retail spaces. With Muse Developments, Poplar HARCA has also been granted planning permission for 274 new family homes at Stroudley Walk (51% of the development will be affordable housing), Bromley-by-Bow.Find out more about Stone Studios
