25/03/2022

Our employment and training centre, The Hive, has received an Outstanding rating following its first inspection by Ofsted.

The Hive, based at East India Dock Road, provides tailored employment support and free, accredited training to the local community. Every year, it supports over 600 people in Poplar and Bow to achieve jobs and qualifications.

The Outstanding rating is the highest available from Ofsted, and demonstrates that the centre provides its clients with an exceptional service.

In the report, The Hive was praised for its commitment and dedication to providing high-quality employment and training support, with the inspector noting that learners are “nurtured by passionate and caring staff.”

The inspector said: “Learners who believe that they cannot get meaningful jobs quickly realise this is not the case. Staff continually encourage learners to believe in themselves and to aim high.”

Tutors were recognised for their “excellent subject knowledge and teaching skills”, with the inspector noting that their ability to understand differing individual needs results in learners receiving “very personalised teaching.”

The report also highlights The Hive’s attentiveness towards female learners, observing that staff support women to “overcome significant barriers to learning”, and help them to “gain significantly in confidence and resilience”.

Feedback from learners was also positive, with the report indicating that clients are “highly motivated and ambitious” during their time at The Hive, with attendance being consistently high.

Commenting on the service’s collaborative nature, the inspector also praised The Hive for its close partnership working with local stakeholders and employers to support “a very high number of unemployed learners into work.”

"I am very proud of the team for working with such dedication and passion for the benefit of the community. To achieve such a high accolade in recognition of their work is testament to the standards we set and the quality of service we provide."
