Under the Teviot War Memorial lights, we remembered

12/11/2025

On 11 November 2025, the Teviot community gathered at the war memorial on Spey Street for a heartfelt Remembrance Day ceremony.

This was a time to honour and reflect on the lives of those who served and sacrificed in times of war.

It was a meaningful occasion, held in partnership with the Teviot Action Group (TAG), bringing local people together to reflect and remember.

One of the guests, David Green, whose great uncle George W. Willis served in the First World War, is among the local heroes commemorated on the war memorial. David said:

“The ceremony was uplifting and moving. It was so beautiful to see the community come together for this day.”

The community were joined by our team, Councillors Ohid Ahmed and Jahed Choudhury, firefighters from Poplar Fire Station, and the incredible children from Manorfield Primary School.

A parent of one of the Manorfield Primary School pupils, Laurice said:

“It was a beautiful event, lovely turn out and very moving. I’m looking forward to the ceremony next year.”

Councillor Jahed Choudhury said:

“This was a wonderful way to remember those who gave their lives for peace and a reminder that we must work together to keep this legacy alive. So good to see our diverse community united today!”

As a token of appreciation, guests enjoyed special memorial-themed cupcakes and hot chocolate, adding warmth and community spirit to the evening.

This event was made possible thanks to the recent illumination of the Teviot War Memorial, completed as part of our regeneration plans with the Hill Group. These plans will bring forward more affordable housing for local people.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this a memorable evening.
