Community Garden Volunteer (One- Off)

Throughout the year we have community spaces and gardens that requires some TLC!
We are always looking for support and volunteers who are keen and green fingered, helping us to bring our gardens back to life.

We’re looking for energetic, smiley and friendly people who want to help bring back our gardens back to life!

Tasks involved:

  • Tidying up the greenhouse and checking for any damage
  • Organising pots, plots, gardening tools in a clear and manageable manner
  • Some de-weeding and mending of the beds may be required on the day
  • No planting required on the day
  • General tidying
  • Working as part of a team
  • Dead-heading
  • Weeding borders

Date: Mid January

Please state your availability for the month

Hours: 10am – 4pm (may finish earlier depending on the group)

Location: Limbrough Garden, Thomas Road, E14

Other Info

Volunteers should come prepared with a pair of long gardening gloves.

No electrical equipment will be handled

Equipment provided: Shears, spades etc


  • Must be positive, enthusiastic, dedicated and friendly
  • Some experience of gardening would be an advantage but not essential
  • Enjoy working as part of a team
  • Reasonably fit
  • Willing to work out of doors in all weather conditions
  • The person must be mobile as there will be a lot of standing involved
  • Comfortable clothing and shoes to be worn on the day
  • Garden gloves (if you have them)
  • A fun, stimulating and friendly environment within which to volunteer
  • A full induction, followed by the right training and ongoing support
  • A named supervisor who will give you regular feedback, allowing you to track your progress and work towards meeting your particular goals
  • Priority for any further training we have on offer
  • ‘Out of pocket’ travel and food expenses with proof of receipt
  • An honest reference regardless of how long you are with us
  • A supportive space to be in and a safe, artistic environment without discrimination
  • Invitations to volunteer social events
  • Access to other volunteering opportunities

Who should we contact in an emergency?


Please provide contact details of two referees who are both willing to provide a character reference. This will involve answering questions on a range of topics from your strengths to areas for development and your time management. Unfortunately we cannot accept references from family or friends. If possible, at least one referee should know you from work, education or volunteering. There are lots of people suitable to provide references, if you are struggling to think of anyone suitable please get in touch and we can discuss your options.
