Walking Lead Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to lead our walking group for people who have been isolated and looking to

  • Provide a warm welcome and experience to participants
  • Leading, safe and enjoyable walks
  • Mapping out local walking routes
  • Taking a register of those attending the walks & returning this to staff.
  • Encouraging and buddying participants and the group.
  • Supporting and motivating participants.

Description of tasks

  • Use resources to write easy to follow recipes and ingredient lists
  • Demonstrate how to follow the recipe to create the final dish
  • Ensure that all equipment is safe and in working order
  • Be aware of the skill level of service users and provide extra support to those that require it
  • Follow best practice in food hygiene and share this knowledge to the learners (training can be provided)
  • Lead the group to clean up, leaving the kitchen in the same clean state you found it
  • Plan sessions in advance so we can advertise what recipes will be cooked to encourage participation
  • Collect money from the group to purchase ingredients
  • Saving and making a record of any leftover money for the next session
  • Adhere to Poplar HARCA Health & Safety procedures set out by Bow Community Hub

 

 

 

 

Requirements

  • Commit to leading health walks on a regular weekly basis (for 6 weeks)
  • Good communication skills to encourage, motivate and provide support to participants and others.
  • Friendly, sociable personality to develop good relationships with participants and others
  • Ability to plan, organise and manage health walks
  • Ability to research and plan routes for walks and identify any potential risks or hazards
