‘Play Street’ outside Lansbury Lawrence Primary School

On 25th March, there will be a ‘Play Street’ on Bygrove Street and a section of Ricardo Street, covering the pupils’ entrance to Lansbury Lawrence Primary School. The roads will be closed from 2:30-5:30pm, with activities taking place from 3-5pm.

A Play Street is a short, stewarded road closure outside a school, giving children the chance to enjoy a new safe space, and parents and residents to meet and enjoy a range of fun activities. These events aim to encourage a healthier, more liveable street environment around our schools, a reduction in car use and to make the area around the schools safer and cleaner- improving the quality of life for everyone.

The event will not stop car access to residents’ houses, as the road closure points will be marshalled. Through traffic will be diverted, but any residents wanting to enter or exit the street will be asked to drive in and out at walking speed, escorted by a volunteer steward. The result we hope will be a great demonstration of the benefits of reducing traffic with as little impact on the residents as possible.
