HARCA’s Hive supports London Poverty Week

Poplar HARCA’s Employment & Training service (The Hive) held an event to showcase their support for London Challenge Poverty Week which ran from 14th  - 18th October. They raised awareness of poverty via a range of pop up stalls which signposted people to services in Tower Hamlets, including their own and partners’, so that locals could learn more about poverty and how it can be dealt with.

The Employment & Training service and partners spoke to over 100 people who visited various stalls registering for training and employment advice at The Hive, support with universal credit  from Tower Hamlets’ Anti-Poverty Outreach Team, youth volunteering  at Spotlight, appointments with Citizens Advise Bureau  and keep fit sessions  with Fit for What.

Those who visited the stalls were very impressed with My Time Active who showed people how to cook healthy meals on a budget. One person said: “So surprised at how one can prepare a lovely meal with so little money! Thanks for showing me how.” Another person mentioned: “I’ve just moved in this area. Great stuff you’re doing here. Lovely talking to you guys.”
