Poplar gives back to its own this Christmas

Hundreds of local people have donated more than £400 to Bow Foodbank by coming along to Poplar HARCA’s Winter Wonderland event on 29th November.

The £432 donation was collected through 50p and £1 entry fees to visit Santa’s Grotto, an Elf Workshop and an ice rink at the annual community celebration.

Bow Foodbank is an independent charity located at Bow Church which provides food and support to anyone in need. A spokesperson from the charity said:

“We are really encouraged by the donations from generous Poplar residents and want to say a big thank you. This donation will make a big difference to many local families and children.”

A spokesperson from Poplar HARCA said:

“We know Bow Foodbank is twice as busy as it was just 18 months ago which means a lot of local people desperately need their support. To be able to donate proceeds given by the community back to the community, from such a happy event, is what the festive period is all about. Thank you to every one who came and paid an entry fee.”

Bow Foodbank is open every Monday, throughout the year, between 9.30am and 12.30pm. No referral is required and anyone in need of their services is welcome to request support during these hours.
