Front of House Volunteer at Spotlight

As a Front of House Volunteer you will be part of the team welcoming and receiving all Spotlight users when they come into the building and answering any queries they may have. We have opportunities for enthusiastic volunteers willing to contribute positively to providing a safe, creative, inspiring and fun environment to meet the needs of all those attending Spotlight.

As a Front of House Volunteer you will be the first point of contact for service users who come into the Spotlight building.

  • Welcome all visitors, young people, contractors and partners to Spotlight
  • Make sure that all young people, volunteers, contractors, partners and visitors sign in at front desk
  • To administer access cards, keys and visitor passes for the building
  • To answer the phone in a friendly and professional manner, and take accurate messages
  • To deal with face to face enquiries from those coming into Spotlight
  • To familiarise yourself with our membership procedures and the Spotlight programme so you can provide people with the information they need to join and take part
  • To encourage young people to sign up to sessions, championing our programme of activities
  • To support the daytime team and youth work team in running daytime events and youth services
  • Using our database ‘Lamplight’ to input membership forms and activity records
  • To undertake other administrative duties as directed by the office staff, occasionally helping with mail-outs
  • To keep all data safe and secure in line with the data protection act 1998

During school holidays you may be volunteering more closely with young people

  • To engage with young people attending Spotlight to build relationships of respect and trust
  • To maintain a professional, safe and non-judgemental environment for the young people attending Spotlight and to report any accidents or incidents to Spotlight staff.
  • To raise any concerns or issues with the Duty manager of Youth Work manager


We are looking for enthusiastic, friendly volunteers with good written and spoken English and excellent communication skills. Although you will be given comprehensive training it is important that you are confident using a computer and telephone.

We ask for a regular weekday commitment of at least 4 hours between 8am and 4pm. We would also like our volunteers to stay with us for at least three months.

All volunteers will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check and to supply references.

If you ticked yes you will be required to disclose details of your history at interview stage. Please note that a caution or conviction may not prevent you from volunteering with Spotlight but failure to disclose relevant information will result in immediate dismissal. Volunteers will undergo enhanced DBS checks.
Who should we contact in an emergency?
Please provide contact details of two referees who are both willing to provide a character reference. This will involve answering questions on a range of topics from your strengths to areas for development and your time management.

Unfortunately we cannot accept references from family or friends. If possible, at least one referee should know you from work, education or volunteering. There are lots of people suitable to provide references, if you are struggling to think of anyone suitable please get in touch and we can discuss your options.
