Volunteer Photographer

Poplar Union is a new arts and events space, situated in Poplar between the Limehouse Cut and Bartlett Park, showcasing and nurturing the untapped creativity of Poplar.

As a Volunteer Photographer, you’ll be on hand to snap photos at various Poplar Union events! We’re looking for someone with an eye for images and an ability to edit the photographs they take, for us to use for social media and marketing content. You are welcome to use your own camera, or use our in-house equipment: a Canon Powershot G7X Mark II and tripod.

This role is particularly suited to someone with a strong interest in photography and editing, as well as theatre, music, dance and the arts, and who wants to support our mission to empower, educate and bring people together.

 

Hours: Flexible, as required for specific events; may need to be available daytime, evening or weekends.

 

Description of Tasks

  • Representing Poplar Union to its visitors, promoting a friendly and welcoming atmosphere
  • Photographing events and editing images
  • Promoting the programme of events at Poplar Union
  • Volunteering alongside other volunteers and member of staff
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties
  • Adhering to Poplar Union and Poplar HARCA’s policies and procedures

 

Requirements

We are looking for lively and committed volunteers with a genuine interest in film and photography and an enthusiasm for our exciting new arts space. In this position, we can offer recognised training and are looking for volunteers to stay with us for at least 4 months.

 

Training and Support

Volunteers are required to attend an induction training session at the venue prior to commencing their volunteer role. Training will cover all necessary information relating to the role, as well as practical training on the use of specific equipment and working within Poplar Union as a building, including all evacuation routes. We will try our very best to accommodate volunteers with additional support needs.

NB: All volunteers will be required to complete an application form, attend an informal interview and be able to supply details of two referees from whom we will seek reference

Please provide contact details of two referees who are both willing to provide a character reference. This will involve answering questions on a range of topics from your strengths to areas for development and your time management.

Unfortunately we cannot accept references from family or friends. If possible, at least one referee should know you from work, education or volunteering. There are lots of people suitable to provide references, if you are struggling to think of anyone suitable please get in touch and we can discuss your options.
