Rabea - Healthcare Horizons

Rabea took part in a programme called Healthcare Horizons. It combines accredited training in Common Health Conditions and training in employability skills with access to apprenticeships within the

We spoke to Rabea after she completed the programme to see how she got on.

What was your situation before the programme began?
Before I started on the Healthcare Horizons programme I had been unemployed for over 6 months. I was lacking confidence when it came to finding the job I wanted, as I didn’t have the
qualifications and experience necessary for the NHS. This is really where I want to end up, so this programme with the opportunity to gain a qualification in Common Health Conditions and an apprenticeship within the NHS seemed like the perfect opportunity for me!

What did you learn from the programme?
The programme has helped me in two different ways. Getting a Level 2 qualification in Common Health Conditions has given me really useful and relevant knowledge for the NHS, and the employability skills training has improved my ability and confidence in applying for
jobs, attending interviews, and public speaking.

How were you supported by the programme?
The team at The Hive and Aidan from Barts Health supported me a great deal. They helped me prepare for the programme and applying for jobs after it finished. I’ve also been seeing an employment advisor, Mohammad, at The Hive, who I see on a one-to-one basis to receive help amending my CV, identifying good job opportunities, and the application stage.

What were your favourite elements of the programme?
Personally, I loved the interactions I had with the staff and the tutors at The Hive, and the other participants on the course. Working with them all boosted my motivation and interest in the programme.

What are your next steps?
For now, I want to continue applying for jobs and apprenticeships within the NHS. I am glad that I can update my CV with a qualification in Common Health Conditions, and will aim to keep
attending one-to-ones with my employment advisor to help me complete job applications and prepare for interviews.

We wish Rabea the best of luck for the future!
