20/12/2022

Aberfeldy residents celebrated the festive season in the new Square at Aberfeldy Village with a Christmas light switch on, carols and crafty activities.

It was ‘snow much fun’ for the Aberfeldy community at the opening of their new village Square on Tuesday 13 December.

Up to 200 local people came along and enjoyed free family-friendly activities such as Christmas card and lantern making, upcycled denim ornament workshops with London College of Fashion’s Making for Change team, hot drinks, seasonal treats and a roaming Santa.

Aberfeldy Street traders, developer EcoWorld London, Deputy Mayor Maium Talukdar and Lansbury ward councillors also joined us for the event in the newly completed Aberfeldy Square.

Deputy Mayor Maium Talukdar said: "I want to wish Aberfeldy residents, Poplar HARCA and EcoWorld season’s greetings, and thank them for organising such a brilliant Christmas event. It was a fitting tribute to our diverse and dynamic community.”

The celebration marked the first of eight hotly anticipated new public facilities at Aberfeldy Village, as part of the regeneration led by us and EcoWorld. Aberfeldy Square provides new a link between Aberfeldy Street and East India Dock DLR station. A new and bigger community centre, health and wellbeing centre, food shop, pharmacy, nursery, café and deli will open by spring/summer 2023.
