Our green spaces are getting a glow up

22/02/2023

Take a walk around Poplar and you might begin to spot our community gardens. There’s quite a few of them, and they’re looked after by and for our residents.

Recently we’ve been working hard to improve the gardens so that more people can enjoy and make the most of them. Now, with the help of Grow Back Greener funding from the Greater London Authority and supported by the Mayor of London, some of our biggest plans are becoming a reality.

“Gardening isn’t just a hobby – it’s also good for our mental health and wellbeing, and interacting with our community. We’re really pleased about the funding, and can’t wait to give our garden some extra love.” – Jilu, gardener from Oban House Garden

The grant will help us to renovate lots of local growing space, and we’ll be working with several organisations including the Women’s Environmental Network, Lincoln Hall Play Group and R-Urban to fix broken beds and open up gardening opportunities for  more residents.

As well as glowing up our green spaces, we’ll be investing the funding in a range of exciting new activities – including offering  workshops and training for green-fingered locals, creating a plan to ensure the gardens are enjoyed for generations to come, and designing an accessible nature trail for the community to explore.

It’s time to get digging!
