Who's the boss! Mayflower primary school visits the world of work at Poplar HARCA
33 year threes, from Mayflower primary school, exchanged their backpacks for briefcases as they visited Poplar HARCA's head office during World of Work Week on Tuesday 11th February.
The young apprentices toured the office to gain an insight into the various careers at Poplar HARCA. They had free reign to ask questions from Directors to Housing Officers about work life. And ask questions they did. From, ‘where did you get your hair cut?’ to, ‘are you the big boss?’. Kids enthusiastically pierced fingers high in the air to learn all they could about perspective careers. These careers introduced them to jobs such as surveyors, anti-social behaviour officers, and personal assistants. The last being a big hit. To these thoughtful minds, personal assistants akin to managing the big boss.
“The experience of visiting a workplace which is very close to our community was enlightening for the children. They were able to see the work that goes into housing and providing the Poplar community with greater opportunities. It allowed the children to think about their future and what they might want to do to support their community when they are older- a great discussion we had when we got back to school.” Johura Begum, Teacher at Mayflower.
At Poplar HARCA we believe in creating opportunity for our residents and the local community. It’s for this reason we participate in World of Work Week every year. It’s important to create a valued learning opportunity for our young friends at Mayflower primary.
“We were very excited to lead them on an educational tour of our offices. We believe in creating opportunities and the day was all about exposing them to various careers. They are bright kids. We really enjoyed hosting them.” Sabiha, Volunteering Coordinator at Poplar HARCA.
