There are lots of different services offering support and advice across Tower Hamlets and the surrounding area. Sometimes it can be tricky to track down exactly what you need. We're here to point you in the right direction.

Our services

Paying your rent

If you’re having money troubles and are worried about paying your rent this winter, please give us a ring on 0800 035 1991. We’ll chat with you about setting up a payment plan you can afford. The sooner you get in touch, the sooner we can help you.

Safety and wellbeing

If you think you or someone you know is at risk, we can help. Our dedicated Safeguarding team offers support in a range of areas, including domestic abuse, hoarding, family support and financial abuse. To find out more click here.

Jobs and training

Our team at The Hive offers free employment support and training for people in our community. We can help you to find job opportunities, boost your skills, and build your confidence:

 

Support for young people

Our youth service Spotlight offers free programmes for 11 to 19 year olds to help them get creative and stay active. Spotlight also offers a safe and warm space for young people to hang out and get hot meals.

Health Spot, a free GP service for young people in Tower Hamlets, is here to assist any young people who need medical advice and support.

Looking after your home

We’re here to help you take care of your home. If you need something repaired please get in touch and we’ll sort it as soon as we can.

Depending on how serious the issue is, you might be able to fix it yourself. Check out our handy how-to repairs guides. We also have some useful tips on how to reduce energy and keep your home warm this winter.

Beat the winter blues with us

Our community centres are opening their doors for longer during the colder months. If you want a place to keep warm, please drop in for a hot drink, a chat, games or just to sit somewhere cosy with friends and family.

Everyone’s welcome. Every Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm at all our centres.

Welfare and benefit advice services

How can these services help me?

The organisations listed in this section can help you with information about benefits and tax credits, including your eligibility. Depending on your needs, some of these services can also give you financial advice and guidance on employment and training opportunities.

Support from Tower Hamlets Council

This year, the Department for Work and Pensions has allocated almost £3 million to Tower Hamlets Council to deliver schemes to support residents. This will include direct payments to support residents with rising food and fuel costs.

Tower Hamlets winter fuel payment

Support will be available through the Tower Hamlets winter fuel payment to help pensioners missing out on a winter fuel payment from central government.

Residents’ support scheme

The Residents’ support scheme helps residents who are either in, or at risk of, being in crisis or are in need of immediate help and have no source of financial support available to them. You do not need to be receiving Universal Credit or other benefits to claim this support.

Residents’ Hubs

The Residents’ Hub offers residents free face-to-face help to access a range of council services including council tax, housing benefit, parking, debt management and advice around welfare benefits.

The service operates at the Tower Hamlets Town Hall as well as some of our Idea Stores and libraries:

Limehouse Project

Whether you need help understanding how the latest government policy changes will impact you and your family, the Limehouse Project can help. If you’re trying to decide on the steps to secure your future ambitions, the Limehouse Project can assist with that too.

Offers one to one advice and guidance in English, Bengali and Somali.

Appointments available to book between Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 4pm.

The Bromley by Bow Centre is a community charity that offers over 40 services and activities for residents in Tower Hamlets. These include free advice on a wide range of financial issues such as benefits, housing and debt.

Food and emergency support services

How can these services help me?

If you’re worried about being cold or hungry, there’s a variety of local organisations who can provide you with access to healthy, affordable food and emergency support. We’ve also listed a couple of services offering friendly and safe spaces for those who need a warm place to spend time when it’s cold.

Breaking Bread

During school term time, Spotlight hosts a weekly family-style dinner for young people aged 11 to 19. Come along to enjoy a hot meal, learn how to cook and chat with others.

Warm Hubs

Idea Stores and libraries across Tower Hamlets are hosting Warm Hubs where residents can drop in to keep warm, enjoy a hot drink, and save on heating costs at home. Tower Hamlets Council staff will be on hand to signpost people to advice and support services if required.

Come along for a free tea and coffee at our Linc Centre every Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm.

The First Love Foundation helps families to access emergency food and financial support.

Neighbours in Poplar (E14 residents only)

Neighbours in Poplar Neighbours in Poplar offers community care for people aged 50+ in the E14 postcode, as well as support for families during the holidays. It also hosts a lunch club during the week and delivers Christmas meals.

Food Stores

Tower Hamlets Council has set up several Food Stores across the borough to support people facing hardship.

You can pick up a week’s worth of food in exchange for a small membership fee, and receive support with:

  • employment and more

How can these services help me?

The law can be difficult to understand but getting some guidance doesn’t need to cost you a fortune. A range of services are on hand to help you navigate your rights and obligations when it comes to housing, debt, benefits, immigration and more.
