Aberfeldy residents vote yes to regeneration

21/10/2020

On a 91.1% voter turnout, 93.1% of residents have voted in favour of regenerating their area of the Aberfeldy Estate.

The ballot saw 297 votes cast in favour of the proposal residents put together with Poplar HARCA.  The regeneration could include 1,880 new homes of all tenures, new green spaces, and new public places.

The independent ballot open to 350 eligible residents was conducted by Civica Election Services  from 23 September to 16 October 2020.

Central to Poplar HARCA’s promises to existing residents is a commitment to keep the community together; every household that wants to, can remain living on  Aberfeldy, and will at a minimum, be offered a like-for-like new home.

Surayia Begum, on behalf of the Aberfeldy Residents’ Steering Group, said:

“We are so excited to push forward now that residents have voted for regeneration. It’s been a real team effort to get to this stage and I feel residents are really being listened to. Although it will take time for our new homes and public places to be built, this regeneration will transform our families’ lives.”

Steve Stride, Poplar HARCA’s Chief Executive said:

“Voting for regeneration means Aberfeldy residents have entrusted us to make the real, positive difference they want. We will deliver on every promise; and look forward to residents remaining at the heart of the decision-making for where they live.”
