Boost for Aberfeldy community as new Hub set to launch

02/06/2023

A brand-new community space is opening in Aberfeldy this month, providing a hub for a host of extra facilities and support for Tower Hamlets residents.

The Feldy Community Centre, based in Aberfeldy Square, will open its doors on Monday 12 June 2023. This purpose-built space has been brought forward as part of our regeneration of Aberfeldy Village in partnership with EcoWorld London.

The partnership worked closely with local residents and community groups on the design and fit out of the new centre, incorporating more specialised spaces and a focus on the things that local residents say they need most – including support for health, education, skills and training and employment. The local community will also co-produce the services and activities on offer.

The centre will also include a ‘marketspace’ venue for pop-up enterprises, an events space with overlooking balcony, a digital suite and workspace alongside meeting rooms.

The launch of the Feldy Community Centre will be marked with a celebration event for residents from 2.30 – 6 pm, where everyone is welcome to pop-in and see for themselves what the new centre has to offer.

In its first year, the new community space expects to see 20,000 visitors through its doors. By the end of 2023, a new GP surgery, nursery, café and shops will open in Aberfeldy Square to further boost the facilities on offer for local people.

More about Aberfeldy regeneration
“Our community centre is the heart of Aberfeldy, bringing people together who normally wouldn't have the chance to. As a working mum of two children, I feel it's really important I stay connected to my local community and all the activities available.

“Me and two of the local mums help run a football session and a homework club session term time. Both sessions are popular for children under 16 years of age. The sessions provide a safe space for under 16’s and give them an opportunity to shine.”

“We have been building and managing community centres for 25 years. The Feldy is going to be up there with the best of our community spaces, just like Spotlight at Langdon Park, and Poplar Union, it will be an inviting, inclusive space where everyone feels welcome, involved, engaged and safe.”

Babu Bhattacherjee, our Director of Communities and Neighbourhoods, on behalf of the Aberfeldy Village LLP

“The Feldy signifies our commitment to our residents and their communities. It will help uplift them on their personal journey and serve as a community space for both our existing and new community members to connect.”
