East London’s beekeepers: A hive of community and growth

20/05/2024

Today, as we celebrate the vital role that bees play in our ecosystem, we're shining the light on the Leaders in Community Beekeeping programme in East London. This initiative isn't just about honey; it's about community, learning, and personal growth.

Through the Leaders in Community Programme (LiC) Beekeeping programme, residents like Yoyo, Reece, Romana, and Ali have found more than just a hobby – they’ve found a passion. Here’s what they have to say:

“I have improved physical and mental health as I am much more active. I have made so many new friends and attend other socials with these people. I have also learnt so much through the training that I am now thinking about having my own hive.” Yoyo

“I have made so many valuable friendships which I will always cherish. I have also been able to use the knowledge I have gained through the program to now build my own personal hive.” Reece

“The course has helped me become a beekeeper. I knew nothing about bees and now have been able use all the training I’ve had to do additional accreditation. I have also made my own hive back home which I have been traveling down for every 2 months.” Romana

“This course is truly beneficial for self-development and making new friends and connections.” Ali

Join us in celebrating these remarkable individuals and the incredible impact they’re making for our buzzing friends!

Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming 75 passionate individuals who have completed the beekeeping training since it began. Each one has played a vital role in safeguarding our precious bee population in East London.

A big thank you to the Community Chest Fund as part of the Teviot regeneration scheme, in partnership with Hill Group UK, for their support in helping LiC Beekeeping program thrive.
