No matter how careful you are, there’s always a risk that your belongings could be broken, damaged or stolen. Having the right insurance in place can help protect you from potential risks.
It’s important to know that home contents insurance is not included in your tenancy or leasehold agreement and is separate from building insurance, so you are responsible for arranging your own home contents insurance.

My Home Contents Insurance
We’ve teamed up with Thistle Tenant Risks to offer tenants and leaseholders a pay-as-you-go home contents insurance scheme, called My Home Contents Insurance.
The scheme offers cover for items such as furniture, carpets, curtains, clothes, bedding, electrical items, jewellery, pictures and ornaments.
For tenants, premiums can be paid weekly or monthly with your rent. For leaseholders, premiums can be paid every 3 months.
Reasons to choose My Home Contents Insurance
- Thistle are specialists in providing tenants contents insurance policies
- There’s no excess (you don’t pay the first part of the claim)
- It covers theft, water damage, fire and many more household risk
- It covers theft or attempted theft of contents in sheds, outbuildings and garages (up to £3,000)
- It covers damage to external glazing for which you are responsible
- It covers replacement and installation of locks for outside doors or windows and alarms, if keys are lost or stolen (up to £500)
- You don’t need to have special door or window locks (just a lockable front door).
