Hate Crime
We believe that strong communities are built on respect, where people of all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities feel safe and welcome. There is no place for hate in our communities.
What is a hate crime?
A hate crime or a hate incident is any behaviour that you or someone else believes is motivated by hostility, prejudice or hatred towards a person or group because of their:
- Disability – including physical, hearing or visual impairments, mental health conditions or learning disabilities
- Gender identity – including people who are transgender, transsexual or non-binary
- Race – including skin colour, nationality, ethnicity or heritage
- Religion, faith or belief – including people with no religious belief
- Sexual orientation – including people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or heterosexual
If you’re unsure whether something is a hate crime, it’s always better to report it – we can help you decide what to do next.
