Complaints: Damp and Mould
Problems with damp and mould are common in older homes. In response to recurring complaints on this issue, we have brought in a new, more proactive approach to tackle issues early on.
Summary
- We have adopted a ‘zero tolerance’ approach to tackling mould in our homes, working in partnership with ZapCarbon. Through the Healthy Homes programme, as soon as mould is reported to us, we send a mould specialist to inspect and clean the area.
- They will apply a non-toxic antimicrobial agent that kills mould, bacteria and even COVID viruses and provides a protective shield reducing the chance of mould returning. The contractor will also share guidance and tips on how to prevent the problem recurring, for example, how to reduce condensation in the home. They will also identify and report back any repairs or defects so that they these can be fixed.
- This is part of our wider strategy to target mould, alongside early detection through smart home devices and annual information campaigns in the colder months to encourage reporting and share prevention tips.
Outcome
- We have treated mould in 237 homes in the first three months of the Healthy Homes programme
- Over 2,600 surfaces cleaned of mould and shielded
- Fewer repeat calls from residents about damp or condensation
- Positive feedback from residents
