Celebrating Pride Month together

16/06/2025

Pride Month is a special time to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community, reflect on how far we’ve come, and recognise there’s still work to do.

Here in Tower Hamlets, we’re a vibrant and diverse community made up of all kinds of people from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. This rich mix of people and stories is what makes our borough such a unique place to live and work.

Local groups and charities play a key role in creating welcoming spaces, bringing people together, and helping everyone feel included and valued. We’re proud to work alongside them in building inclusive environments where our residents, staff and partners are safe and supported.

To celebrate the start of Pride Month, our colleagues got together for a smoothie bike charity challenge. It was a fun and energetic way to connect, enjoy some colourful fruity drinks, and show our support for the LGBTQIA+ community – both within our workplace and across the borough.

The event raised funds for Step Forward, a local LGBTQIA+ friendly charity that supports young people in Tower Hamlets with counselling, mentoring, and safe spaces.

Jennifer Fear, CEO of Step Forward, said: “Step Forward has been able to offer a safe, supportive and welcoming space for young people in Tower Hamlets for 37 years. Our therapeutic and personal development teams support young people to feel listened to, have an improved sense of wellbeing and feel more optimistic about their futures.”

Events like this are a reminder of how important it is to create spaces where everyone feels seen, heard and free to be themselves.  We’ll continue making sure diversity and inclusion are at the heart of everything we do.
