In partnership with the Greater London Authority, Tower Hamlets Council, Muse, and McAleer & Rushe, we have delivered 82 new affordable homes for rent at Stroudley Walk, Bromley-by-Bow.
The new family homes include ten accessible properties, two of which have been designed to be autism-friendly. These homes are already transforming lives, providing calm, secure environments that support independence and wellbeing.
On 28 October, Executive Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman, and council officers who’ve pioneered the autism-friendly design guidance, visited some of the families who have moved in. The Mayor praised the new homes for affordable rent as “more than housing; it’s about dignity, inclusion, and designing with empathy.”
Features of the autism-friendly homes, a first for Poplar HARCA, include enclosed staircases, secure kitchens, and sensor taps that are carefully integrated to enhance safety and reduce the need for constant supervision.
Kamal Hussain, who will soon move into one of these homes, shared:
“We have been waiting a long time to get a house on medical grounds, and now we have it. Our children, my wife, all our family are happy.”
Earlier in October, Stratford and Bow MP Uma Kumaran and London’s Deputy Mayor for Housing, Tom Copley, also visited Stroudley Walk. They heard local historian Stuart Holdsworth share stories of the area’s rich suffragette history and met pupils from St Agnes Primary School who proudly spoke about the pavement mural they helped design with Bow Arts — inspired by the community’s legacy of activism.
Paul Dooley, Poplar HARCA’s Chief Development Officer, said:
“This is an exciting moment for the Bromley-by-Bow community as we hand over a new collection of affordable homes that Tower Hamlets residents can call home.”
The wider regeneration of Stroudley Walk will deliver 274 homes in total, alongside new shops, green spaces, and a community hub. Full completion is expected in spring 2026.
