Knit, Natter & Craft Support Volunteer
The Brownfield Cabin offers a broad range of activities and services for local people including exercise, counselling, creative, green and social activities.
We are looking for a bubbly, creative, crafty, knitting fabulous person who can support our kind and welcoming group of crafters. As Knit, Natter & Craft Volunteer you will be part of a small team welcoming users and supporting in the coordination and facilitation of a weekly creative session.
The Role

As Knit, Natter & Craft Volunteer you will support in the overall planning and facilitation of a weekly creative session which offers a range of knitting and craft activities to the local community.
Description of tasks
- To ‘meet and greet’ all those attending sessions, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere
- To support the group in the planning of fantastic crafty activities
- To support with researching ideas for and overall development of activities
- To support individuals with their crafting projects and lead group activities
- To ensure the completion of registers and support new users to complete the necessary paperwork
- To ensure that the room is set up and tidied away at the end of the session
- To volunteer within Poplar HARCA policies and procedures
- To fulfil any other duties considered reasonable as directed by The Cabin staff.
Requirements
We are looking for a passionate, creative and committed volunteer who has a genuine interest in people and for all things craft! You will have experience of knitting, crochet and other arts and/or craft techniques. You will need good written and spoken English skills. On occasion you will be handling information of a personal nature and therefore awareness and understanding of the importance of confidentiality is vital.

- You will be prioritised for any relevant training we have on offer
- Volunteers who are unemployed will also be able to access training from our Employment and Training team on topics such as Awareness of Mental Health Problems, Business Administration and Customer Service. You will also be able to receive employability support including a CV review and help to apply for jobs.
- You will receive agreed travel expenses, and can claim lunch expenses if you volunteer for more than four hours a day
