Behind the Scenes with Ben Lloyd, our Director of Finance

17/02/2026

Welcome back to our ‘Behind the Scenes’ series – where we chat with the people leading and shaping the work we do every day.

For this edition, we’re spending time with Ben Lloyd, who has recently stepped into the role of Director of Finance. Ben works closely with our Chief Finance Officer, Simran Soin, and together they help keep HARCA financially healthy so we can continue investing in the homes, services and regeneration projects that benefit our community. You can read Simran’s ‘Behind the Scenes’ interview here.

Setting the direction for the year

Ben’s first year in his new role is set to be full of collaboration, improvements and new ideas.

He tells us:

“I’m focused on strengthening the foundations that help us deliver for residents. I want to find the right balance between using trusted methods and fresh thinking, so that we’re moving forward and planning well for the long-term.”

Some of the projects he’ll be leading include:

  • Upgrading our finance system so colleagues can work more efficiently
  • Strengthening how we manage and collect service charges, helping build resident confidence
  • Moving forward with new funding initiatives, including setting up two new providers that will help us bring in more investment

As Ben puts it:

“My job is to make sure our money is used in the best way for residents. I want to help the organisation do things well – and do things better.”

Supporting the teams who support residents

Ben works closely with teams across Operations, Development and Asset Investment to help turn plans into real outcomes for local people. He also works with current and potential investors to secure long‑term, affordable finance, giving colleagues the clarity and confidence they need to move their work forward for our community.

He tells us he’s energised by the unique character of the hyperlocal area in which we work:

“Poplar is a place where every decision matters. It keeps you on your toes and reminds you why our work is important,” he says.

 The Ben behind the role

Outside of work, Ben enjoys getting outdoors – especially wild camping in remote spots.

“Being out in remote places gives you a new appreciation for the simple things when you get home.”

He also loves exploring new neighbourhoods, wandering through markets, cafés and pubs, and uncovering bits of local history.

“I enjoy finding old buildings or learning something new about an area. It always leads me down interesting rabbit holes!”
