Transforming Broomfield Street with a community-led makeover

11/06/2025

A once-forgotten part of Lansbury North Estate is now full of life again. For over a decade. the old play area on Broomfield Street had been empty – but local residents had a clear vision: they wanted to restore and revitalise the space for everyone to enjoy.

The Lansbury South and North Estate Board played a key role in bringing the project to life, championing the idea from the start.

Over the past year, residents helped shape the redesign. Together, we agreed on a few key goals:

  • create a space that’s safe and easy to maintain
  • add plants that support biodiversity and can cope with climate change
  • restore and improve the seating
  • use natural items, like logs and stones, for sitting or play

To make it happen, we partnered with Hubbub, Breaking Ground and R-Urban – three fantastic organisations that support community-led, sustainable projects.

Now, the space is open and ready to use. It’s calm, it’s green, and it’s welcoming – and a brilliant example of what can happen when we work together as a community.
