10 Towers Challenge raises £24,000 for charity

09/10/2024

Our 10 Towers Challenge charity event has raised just shy of £24,000 for two charities: The Aberfeldy Project and Asthma + Lung UK.

A total of 77 participants, a mix of our team, partners and the community, scaled the stairs of 10 of the tallest tower blocks in Poplar and Bow on Saturday 28 September, including the iconic Balfron Tower, on St Leonards Road.  Stacked on top of each other, the tower blocks would be taller than the Empire State Building.

Afterwards, with Spotlight, our creative youth service, we hosted a free barbeque for the community and the well deserving challenge participants, including Councillor Iqbal Hossain,  at the Linc centre, in Bow.

Steve Stride, our Chief Executive, said:

“What we’ve achieved together says a lot about our community. Walking up and down 4000 stairs and 200 floors is no mean feat!

I was touched by the palpable support we received from the community and good spirit throughout.”

Abdul Mukith, a Tower Hamlets resident and a co-founder of The Aberfeldy Project, said:

“The Aberfeldy Project is all about providing our community with opportunities to get active and improve wellbeing so a physical challenge, in our manor, felt like a natural thing to do!

It’s a bonus that the local people we work with will benefit so greatly from this remarkable fundraising effort.”

A spokesperson for Asthma + Lung UK said:

“Every week 10,000 people are diagnosed with a lung condition in the UK, including asthma. This fundraiser will make sure that people affected by lung conditions – and their families – have our team in their corner, providing lifesaving support every step of the way.”

The 10 Towers Challenge was sponsored by our partner, Aico, a leading home safety technology provider.

The 10 Towers Challenge Just Giving page remains open for donations.*

*Although the  Just Giving fundraising page allows fundraising towards just one charity, Asthma + Lung UK, an additional £8K was donated by Aico, plus £966 raised in raffle prizes. This additional amount will be donated in full to The Aberfeldy Project.
