Vandalism

Vandalism is the deliberate damage or defacement of property, and is a form of antisocial behaviour. Examples include breaking windows, graffiti, and damaging communal areas and other public spaces. We know this behaviour can cause distress and affect people’s sense of safety in their community.

How to report vandalism

If the damage is caused by a Poplar HARCA resident, please report it to our Community Safety team:

If you witnessed the vandalism, please share as much detail as possible including:

  • What you saw
  • When it happened (date and time)
  • Any information about who was involved

Photos of the damage can help to confirm what’s happened, but they can only be counted as evidence if they show who’s responsible.

If you didn’t witness the incident, but you have a good idea about who may be responsible, please let us know and explain why.

Report vandalism

If you’re not sure who caused the vandalism or they’re not a Poplar HARCA resident, you should report the issue to Tower Hamlets Council:

You can also contact our Community Safety team and we can help check whether the person is a Poplar HARCA resident.

What we can do to help

Our Community Safety team will review the information and look into the situation.

Where there’s enough evidence linking the vandalism to a specific person, we’ll take appropriate action to address the behaviour and help prevent it from continuing. However, if there’s not enough evidence, we may not be able to take formal action.
