We’re asking residents to help us reduce the number of blocked drains in your homes. A blocked toilet or sink is inconvenient and costly to fix. You can help prevent blockages with our easy tips. And help us not to flush money down the drain… literally!
£70,000 per year on blockages
Every single year we spend a startling £70,000 on fixing blockages in your homes. These blockages are expensive – but they can easily be prevented.
With that £70,000 we’d be able to spend it better by doing so much for your community, including:
- train 490 people to get the qualifications they need to get jobs
- renew seven kitchens so our residents can cook delicious and nutritious meals
- support 560 people with energy vouchers, advice on saving energy, and gadgets to keep their homes warm in the winter
- throw five community festivals for people to have some fun and connect
- get 350 women into cycling or canoeing
What can we all do to avoid blockages?
First off – remember the three Ps.
Only flush poo, pee and (toilet) paper down the loo to avoid blocking your toilet.
Don’t let food scraps clog up your kitchen sink. You can buy a sink strainer from any hardware shop – they only cost a few quid.
Never put oil down your sink as it hardens when it cools and will cause a blockage. Let your oil cool and pour it into an empty bottle or container instead so that you can easily chuck in the bin.
Let’s not flush money down the drain!
You can make a difference. Let’s treat our toilets and sinks kindly and stop flushing money down the drain.
