Meet Jon – our future Chair

26/03/2025

We’re proud to announce that Jon Lord will become the new Chair of our Board, in June.

Jon, former Chief Executive of Bolton at Home, will oversee Poplar HARCA’s governance, strategy and operations.

His appointment will take place after the departure of our current Chair, Paul Brickell,  who completes his 10-year tenure, this summer.

Jon said about becoming our Chair:

“I’m thrilled to lead and guide the Board to ensure that we continue to prioritise the needs of our residents and the community.”

With over 35 years of experience in housing and a solid background in the third sector, Jon brings a wealth of knowledge and a values-driven approach to the role.

His career has been dedicated to improving lives, and his decision to join Poplar HARCA is deeply rooted in the alignment of our organisation’s core values with his own.

"Stepping into the role of Chair of the Board feels like a perfect fit, as Poplar HARCA's core values resonate deeply with my own."

Jon said about understanding the priorities of residents and the wider community:

“While many of the aspirations and challenges facing communities in east London echo those I’ve worked with in the past, the unique context here adds an exciting new dimension to the work ahead.”

Steve Stride, our Chief Executive, said about Jon’s appointment:

“We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Jon Lord as our new Chair, later this year.”

"With his experience, strong leadership, and unwavering commitment to our organisation’s values, I’m confident that Jon will bring fresh insights and guide our Board to new heights."

Jon’s career spans leadership roles at Bolton Council and non-executive positions at Bolton Wanderers, Mosscare Housing Association, Bolton Community Advice, and Blackpool Housing Company.

In addition to Jon’s appointment, we welcomed two new Board members, Razia Nizamuddin and Susmita Sen, in late 2024.  A further two new recruits are set to join our Board in June.
