Together with Tower Hamlets' GP Care Group, Health Spot provides medical services by GPs experienced in working with young people. It’s accessible and delivered in the familiar space of Spotlight.
“Now at Spotlight young people have access to doctors, counsellors, therapists, sexual health support, drug and alcohol intervention workers. We know young people trust us enough to engage with these specialist workers because our youth workers and partners have provided a safe and inspirational place over the last six years”. Dan Rose, Director, Spotlight.
Reports show that young people often face barriers accessing health services which reveal an increase in unmet health needs. Health Spot helps reconcile this. Those aged 11 – 19 (up to 25 with special education needs) can now easily access confidential medical advice on their physical and mental well – being. They can also request the presence of a youth worker during the appointment for additional support.
“Having the youth worker in the call made me feel calm. I was supported and helped and able to express myself.” Health Spot Service User
Health Spot takes place every Tuesday, 4pm – 8pm. Appointments can be made by phone or video call. Any young person can use the service, they do not have to be a member of Spotlight. On top of receiving high level health care, they will also have access to Spotlight’s extensive programme of activities.
In addition to the NHS, Health Spot works in partnership with Docklands Outreach and Safe East.
