Sisters Ciara and Lula move to a brand new shared ownership property at Hackney’s Stone Studios

What did you know about shared ownership before you bought your home? 

Very little! However, we have learnt so much throughout this experience. We thought that shared ownership was a great way to get onto the property ladder but had heard the common myths that you can’t paint, decorate or make the place your own in any way. We have been pleasantly surprised, it really is a great scheme and brings many benefits that we have picked up along the way that we weren’t aware of before starting the process.

Why did you choose to buy a shared ownership property? 

Our previous rent in London was extortionate, and we were living in a tiny flat prior to moving to Stone Studios. We were blown away by the fact we could afford to live in such a beautiful flat in a great location for less than we were paying before, whilst investing in our future.

What impact has having your new home had on your day to day life? 

We are both still working from home, so it has made that far more enjoyable as we have more space, a balcony and a bright, airy flat to work in. The location is also fantastic, right between Victoria Park and the Olympic Park, meaning we get the best of the city whilst also being able to get outside and enjoy the parks.

What is your favourite thing about your new home? 

The balcony! Having outside space is such a luxury and there is nothing better than enjoying our morning coffee out there.

Have you got any tips for someone who is considering buying a shared ownership property? 

Persevere with the paperwork and processes that are required to get there, it is totally worth it, and we are so pleased we’ve done it.
