Government Building Safety update

13/01/2022

The Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has made a statement about the Government’s renewed approach to building safety.

The two key changes which impact leaseholders are:

  • Leaseholders who live in their own flats, in medium rise buildings, (below 18.5m and above 11m), will not bear the costs for work required to unsafe cladding. The previous Government loan scheme set up for leaseholders to fund this work has been replaced with an industry funded scheme.
  • New guidance for those making assessments of external wall systems to make sure a sensible risk based approach is taken and no unnecessary works are carried out.

We are already working with fire engineers to apply a risk based approach when assessing the safety of our buildings.

We will continue to work to the latest Government guidance and keep residents affected informed on the timescale for the new industry funded scheme and any future developments relating to building safety.
