Taking action together this International Women’s Day

03/03/2025

Our mission is to create opportunities together, which is why celebrating International Women’s Day on Saturday 8 March is important to us.

We want to support, uplift and show appreciation for the women in our workplaces and communities. By providing them with opportunities to grow and succeed, and through sharing their stories, we can make progress towards a fairer future for everyone. And this year’s theme, ’Accelerate Action’ reminds us that real change happens when we keep taking steps forward, together.

What does taking action together mean for us?

It means creating a community where all women feel empowered, heard, and supported in shaping their lives. Through our programmes and initiatives, we offer new opportunities every year for women in east London. From a wide variety of women’s-only activities, to supporting them to learn new skills and start new careers, we provide spaces where women can connect, evolve and succeed together.

By working with our residents, staff and partners, we can break down barriers, amplify female voices, and create a community where women of all backgrounds and experiences have the tools and support, they need to thrive.

Celebrate International Women’s Day with us

There are a number of events and activities taking place across our centres where you can get together with local woman to celebrate female empowerment through creative workshops, sports and talks.

Meet Angel, our Marketing and Communications Officer

Angel has been a real champion of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), leading campaigns that challenge perceptions, amplify underrepresented voices, and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of east London.

Ride the waves with Tanjina, a participant in our women’s-only paddle programme

Tanjina, 45, is part of our Oar and Explore paddle programme, which helps women from underrepresented communities to get active and feel empowered through water sports. Tanjina faced her long-running anxiety of the water, stepped out of her comfort zone, and found both confidence and community. Her story shows that opportunities and representation can change lives whether it’s through overcoming fear, trying something new, or bringing others along with you for the ride.
